Feeling depressed.
Depression is, “A mental state characterized by a pessimistic sense of inadequacy and a despondent lack of activity”. Although there may be some fortunate people who never ever felt depressed before, there are still many out there who suffer from depression, ranging from mild to chronic depression.
I for one, suffer depression at times. Have been suffering from it since I was a teenager. Due to the struggle with my weight, family issues, and lost of an important family member. From my own experience, when you are prone to being depressed, even a small unwanted insignificant event in your life would trigger it. Sometimes you just don’t know why you feel it, but the feeling is there. And nearly nothing would make you feel better. Not even if somebody comes, and for no reason just gave you a new playstation 3 as a gift, which on a normal day you’d be estatic, but not when you’re depressed.
I wonder whether depression is a sickness sometimes. Well, from the readings I’ve done on this, so far I think, the answer is, ‘it depends’. Depends on how terrible or chronic the depression is. Some people would get out of depression as soon as they get in it, some would have to sleep and wake up the next day feeling a lot better about the world and themselves. Perhaps, it wouldn’t be too much to say that if someone has to take medications for his/her depression, then it is a sickness.
For me? trying to think positive is the way I control my depression. I must say, being depressed and trying to be positive isn’t easy but not impossible. Though sometimes I can’t control the way I feel, but at least I can try to control the way I do things. I suggest to myself about the positive things, and try to keep myself busy with things that would make me feel better.
