Fat burning matters, calorie intake matters too.

March 31st, 2010

PhotobucketI know an 11 year old boy who weighs about 123 lbs. And that’s 9-11 lbs heavier than I. That is quite a lot considering that I am a lot taller than he and I’m nearly 19 years older than he. Currently, the parents are putting him into an exercise regime. 2-3 hours a session, 2-3 times a week. Any changes? Maybe too little to see. I could have sworn that he only seems bigger.

Well, the point is, no matter how one exercises, but if one eats the same food that one eats that made him or her fat – cola, fried fatty food, etc – without any restrictions what so ever, I don’t think losing weight would be possible. It’s not only about how much  fat you can burn, but how much of calorie you put into your system counts too.

I suppose this is just common sense that many people would know of, but unfortunately there are people who never thought of it that way. I do pity the kid.

Steps target.

March 12th, 2010

According to doctors, you need to take at least 10,000 steps a day to keep healthy. For a person who has sedentary job, the average steps they take everyday would range from a thousand to 3,000 steps. Believe me to reach 10,000 steps would mean you have to walk ‘a lot’.

Since I had my pedometer, to be honest, I’ve never really reached 10,000 steps a day. My average would be 2000 to 3000 or little bit more everyday. Yeah, I know a long way to 10,000 steps. Perhaps the best way for me is to try to add more steps daily, even if it means that I have to walk around the room to reach my daily target.

Well, good luck to me!

Bespoke diet plan.

March 5th, 2010

Do you have that skinny, slim friend that can eat what ever, how ever much he or she wants without even worrying about gaining weight? I hate people like that. Hah, just kidding… not hate but envy. They are just lucky to have been born with the ‘slim’ genes. :)   I, and I’m sure many other people on this planet, isn’t as lucky. We would have to struggle with our weight after we had indulged ourselves with yummy, fatty, delicious food.

Today I read an interesting article regarding a study that shows how DNA may determine what is the best weight lost diet for individuals. Seems that those participants who went on a diet best for their genes, lose weight up to 3 more times more than the other participants. Read more of the article here.

Blue diet.

March 3rd, 2010

Have you ever heard that the colour blue can actually surpress appetite?  Well, I’m not sure of how true it can be but it all started by the belief  of our ancestors had since million years ago. It is believed that most poisonous food are blue or dark in colour. So naturally we develop an instinct to avoid blue or dark coloured food.

Therefore someone came up with an idea of utilizing this ‘instinct’ to help food lovers to stay away from food and lose weight. How? Here are a few suggestions:

1. Change your refridgerator light bulb to blue, so that the blue light would make the food in the fridge look blue.

2. Serve your food on blue colour plates or bowls.

3. Cook your food with edible blue colouring to make it look blue.

4. Heh, here’s a weird one…. wear blue sunglasses at all times so every food you look at would look blue. LOL

So good luck in experimenting!
