Many of us thought that once you pop into your mouth your vitamin supplements everyday, you are good to go. Little did we know that some vitamins when taken not the way it they should be taken would give little or no effect at all.

So what are the best ways to take certain vitamins? Here is a short list:

Why you need to reduce red meat intake.

May 25th, 2009

I love to eat red meat-beef, lamb, etc- although I don’t eat it as much as I eat white meat like chicken and fish. If you eat red meat almost most of the time then you should consider to lessen your red meat intake. Why? Because,

a. It increases the risk of heart disease due to the fat content.

b. It also increases the one’s susceptibility to certain types of cancers – stomach, colon, breast cancers etc.

c. It increases mortality rate – people who eats more red meat tend to die earlier than those that don’t.

You can read more on this in details here.

Restrict calorie intake to live longer?

May 6th, 2009

Most people I know who want to lose the extra weight because they want to feel better about themselves or look good. But there are also people who want to lose weight for the sake of being healthier. For what ever the reasons that may be for one to lose weight, it is always a good thing to control our food intake.

Earlier research showed that mice that eat little has the tendency to live longer than those that eat a normal diet. Does that apply to human beings too? According to scientists, although it may take years and years of research to determine this, but the least result from eating less is that, one can avoid many diseases and also, perhaps,  slows down the aging process. So if you have never put much thought about the things you put into your mouth perhaps you should start doing so now.

In times like these when food is in abundance and the variety of delicious (sometimes unhealthy) dishes to choose from are plentiful, it may not be an easy thing to control what and how much we eat.

But as they say, there are usually solutions to problems. There are various tools that can be found today in order to help us keep check of the things we eat everyday.

Track and record your daily calorie intake online on Thedailyplate.com. They have about 621,600 foods in their database so you can search for the food that you are eating and find out the calorie content or other nutrition facts. Keep track through a personalized daily journal. It’s a great online tool and it’s free.

Another calorie tracking tool that you may like to try out is the LabPixies calorie calculator.

The gadget is free and easy to use. You can add it to your toolbar or even your igoogle page.

I find tracking down what I eat everyday, makes me feel in control. Even if I may not loose weight they way I want it to, but at least I know that I am doing my body a favour by not burdening it by eating more than needed.
